Accommodation
India Volunteer Care—in connection with Prime Trust—manages multiple buildings across Pondicherry that house incoming volunteers. The accommodations are simple, but offer many comforting amenities such as:
Overall, the living conditions contribute to a productive working environment as well as a social one. We always work to house volunteers with each other, so no one needs to live alone. Often, there is the ability to live onsite for some of the volunteer projects; for example, if working with the Girls' Home you may be able to live in the upstairs of the Home. If you plan to work with our sister organization, Prime Trust, you can live above their office. All of the homes are in typical Indian neighbourhoods just outside of Pondicherry's city centre, the French Quarter, and the coast. There are a variety of shops in the neighbourhood where you can buy Indian street foods, fresh vegetables and fruits, basic toiletries, chai tea, and much more. Transportation to anywhere in town by auto-rickshaw is available within walking distance of the homes or it's a only short walk to the city center. You won’t have to make your decision on accommodation until you arrive, however, if you have a particular preference (such as a shared room with a friend), please let us know beforehand so we can arrange accordingly. Alternately, if you would like to find private housing, we can assist you in finding a place the suits your needs. If you have any further questions about our accommodations, feel free to contact us.
